November Meeting: Restorative Justice
November 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Restorative Justice is a community-based approach to crime that emphasizes repairing harm through cooperative processes. Put simply, Restorative Justice seeks to find out what happened, what harm resulted, and what needs to be done to make things right.
At our November meeting, Valoree Hanson will be speaking about her work as the Restorative Justice Director of the Dispute Settlement Center in Carrboro, North Carolina. Valoree integrates her passion for conflict transformation by helping educators, organizations, and community members learn about and utilize Restorative Justice practices. Valoree has trained and facilitated across North Carolina and also teaches Restorative Justice at Guilford College. Since 2012, she has been practicing Alternative Dispute Resolution with a focus on Restorative Practices. Val has been awarded the NC Dispute Resolution award for Achievement in Mediation and the NC Bar Association for Commitment to Public Service.
